Technical training is changing: from knowledge to memorize to knowledge available when needed

“Operators no longer want to study entire manuals or store information that they may use months later. They want access to the information at the time it serves, at the point where it serves. ”

It is a reflection shared recently with Dimensione3 by the director of establishment of an important Italian manufacturing company. An observation that sums up a transformation already in progress in the way people learn and access technical knowledge.

From training to access to knowledge

Manuals, procedures and training paths remain fundamental, but it is not always effective to transfer large amounts of information asking people to store them before they become really necessary.

In many industrial contexts there is a different need: to be able to quickly access the correct information at the time and place where it must be used, through immediate content such as video, images, procedures and interactive experiences.

The theme is not only about how to train people, but also how to make knowledge available during work.

Digital Twin as an information access point

It is one of the principles underlying TwinFor training.

Procedures, manuals, videos and technical content can be related to the Digital Twin system and contextualized directly in the environments, machinery and equipment they refer to.

The operator must not necessarily know in advance where information is found within the documentation: it can start from the operating context, identify what it has to intervene on and access the relevant content.

The Digital Twin becomes a new business knowledge access interface, in which space and information are closely connected.

Training and operational support become continuous

This approach extends the very concept of technical training.

Learning is no longer confined exclusively at the time of the course, but can continue during operational activity: from initial training to onboarding, to consultation of a procedure or technical content when a concrete need arises.

Talks with managers, plant managers and training professionals confirm that this need is present in the manufacturing industry.

It is not just about digitizing training, but about connecting knowledge and operating context, making information accessible when and where it really serves.
